The Smith Meter Bidirectional Prover is a displacement-type proving device, either stationary or portable (truck-mounted), used to determine the meter factor of positive displacement and turbine meters at loading racks, pipelines and marine terminals. A spheroid travels through a water-draw calibrated section in both directions, reversed by a four-way diverter valve, and the meter pulses counted between two detector switches over one round trip are compared to the certified volume. Double diverter-valve seals with seal monitoring give bubble-tight sealing during proving.

How to specify / order
Smith provers are engineered to order; the bulletin gives specifications and standard equipment rather than a position-by-position model code. Provide the following with your RFQ:
- Line size and flange class: 2-24 in; ANSI 150, 300, 600 or 900
- Meter(s) to be proved: Type, size and K-factor of PD or turbine meters
- Flow range: Minimum / normal / maximum flow
- Product: Name, gravity, viscosity, temperature and pressure range
- Installation: Stationary above-ground, underground, or portable truck-mounted
- Controls: Local and/or remote diverter-valve control; prover counter or flow computer interface
- Certification: Water-draw calibration; pressure code (ASME B31.3 / B31.4)
Pricing and lead time are quoted per configuration. Send the model code (or your application details), product, flow range, and pressure/temperature to Flow Measurement Services for a quote. Specifications summarized from Smith Meter bulletin SS0V002; confirm current data with the factory before ordering.
