The Smith Meter Model APS is a combined air purger and strainer that prevents measuring errors from gas and air pockets. Its compact design suits loading applications and, with a Smith Meter vertical meter and valve, gives an economical, space-saving package. Flow enters at the bottom, slows in the enlarged body, and inclined baffles guide it under an automatic RB air release head before it passes through the basket to the outlet. The head carries a float-operated ATEX reed switch that closes a shut-off valve downstream of the meter while air or gas is present; the valve does not re-open until the gas has been released. It is built by Smith Meter GmbH (Ellerbek, Germany) to AD 2000 with EC weights and measures approval.
