The Smith Meter Model T-40 is a 4-inch, single-case, angle-type rotary vane positive displacement meter used for blending, batching, dispensing, inventory control and custody transfer of oils, solvents, chemicals, paints, fats and fertilizers. The rotary vane principle keeps pressure drop across the measuring chamber low to limit slippage, the calibrator adjusts in 0.05% steps, and ball bearings with fixed cam timing give long service life. Cast iron is standard, with an aluminum housing option for low temperatures.

Key specifications

  • Size: 4 in (4 in NPT Y-strainer available)
  • Max flow: 400 GPM (1,500 L/min) continuous; 500 GPM (1,900 L/min) intermittent

  • Viscosity: 400 mPa·s standard; to 2 Pa·s with high-viscosity clearances
  • Temperature: -20 to 150 °F standard; to 200 °F with high-temperature clearances; aluminum housing -50 to 200 °F
  • Max working pressure: 75 psig up to 200 °F (cast iron or aluminum housing)
  • Meter gearing: 5 US gallons or 1 dekaliter per calibrator revolution
  • Materials: Cast iron housing (aluminum optional); iron, steel, stainless and aluminum internals; Buna-N standard, Viton or PTFE optional seals
  • Accessories: 200/600 Series counters, printer, Type E, LNC, PST and UPT pulse transmitters, ATC/ATG, flow rate indicator, remote registration

How to specify / order

The bulletin gives an ordering checklist rather than a position-by-position model code. Provide the following with your RFQ:

  • Application: Batching, loading, blending, inventory, process control
  • Operating conditions: Liquid name and gravity; minimum/normal/maximum flow, temperature and viscosity; maximum working pressure
  • Seals: Buna-N (standard), Viton or PTFE
  • Units of registration: Gallons, liters, pounds, kilograms
  • Inlet/outlet position: 1-A standard; specify another position (e.g. 2-C) if needed
  • Options / accessories: Housing material, high-viscosity or high-temperature clearances, counters, pulse transmitter, ATC/ATG

Pricing and lead time are quoted per configuration. Send the model code (or your application details), product, flow range, and pressure/temperature to Flow Measurement Services for a quote. Specifications summarized from Smith Meter bulletin SS01029; confirm current data with the factory before ordering.
