The Smith Meter Model AR Air Eliminator separates and releases air or gas from petroleum and other liquids before they pass through the meter. The AR tanks are horizontal pressure vessels with flanged ends; they slow the line velocity so vapor bubbles rise to the top and vent through the air release head. They serve refined products and crude oils up to 45 mPa·s (200 SSU), or up to 400 mPa·s (2,000 SSU) with the DE-2 head, take mechanical (RB, UB) or electric (DE series) heads, can be supplied to ASME Section VIII, and are post-weld heat treated as standard for ethanol service. Install as close to the pump and meter as possible; higher-viscosity products may need the next larger tank.

Key specifications

  • Models / max. flow at 5 psi: 1030: 360 USGPM (2", 3"); 2040: 610 (4"); 3050: 850 (6"); 4565: 1,450 (6"); 45100: 1,800 (8"); 75200: 4,000 (8", 10"); 150300: 4,700 (10", 12"); 350700: 5,200 (16")
  • Maximum working pressure: Class 150 RF: 285 psig (1,965 kPa); Class 300 RF: 300 psig (2,068 kPa), at 100 °F
  • Temperature: Buna-N standard -20 to 225 °F (-29 to 107 °C); LS Buna -20 to 225 °F; Viton 0 to 400 °F (-18 to 205 °C); Chemraz (UB head only) -20 to 450 °F (-29 to 232 °C)
  • Materials: SA516 Gr. 70 heads, shell, hand-holes and lifting lugs; SA53 / SA106 Gr. B pipes and wells; A105 drain; A36 feet
  • Drain: 1-1/4" NPT (1030-45100); 2" NPT (75200-150300); 3" opening (350700)
  • Features by size: Lifting lugs on 2040 and up; hand-holes on 150300 and 350700
  • Overall length (A): 34.0 in (1030) to 135.5 in (350700)

How to read the model code

Example: AR-4-2040-3-R1-C. Read the code left to right; each position selects one option:

  • AR (Type): Air Eliminator
  • 4 (Flange size): Per the selection table for the model (ASME B16.5)
  • 2040 (Model): 1030, 2040, 3050, 4565, 45100, 75200, 150300 or 350700
  • 3 (Connection / pressure rating): 3 = Class 150 RF, 285 psig (1,965 kPa); 5 = Class 300 RF, 300 psig (2,068 kPa)
  • R1 (Air release head): R1 / R2 / R3 = RB head with Buna-N / Viton / LS Buna; U1 / U2 = UB head with Viton / Chemraz; DE = dual electric DE head; PG = Petro-Gard (give the head's own full code too)
  • C (Design code): Blank = designed to ASME VIII-1; C = ASME VIII-1 "U" stamp (third-party inspected)

How to specify / order

Give the model code above plus the air release head's full model code, or send:

  • Maximum flow rate, product and viscosity (one size larger may be needed above diesel/kerosene viscosity)
  • Expected air and vapor conditions, including dry-pipe start-up and shutdown
  • Flange class and size, air release head type (RB / UB per SS03040, DE-1 / DE-2 per SS03030, DE-3 per SS03037)
  • Whether an ASME "U" stamp is required

Bulletin notes: the 3" model-1030 dimension L is printed 14.3 in (279 mm) while the 2" column gives 14.3 in (363 mm); the code chart prints pressure as "Class 285"; the selection basis is printed "API 40.6 °C 60 °F". Eliminator mounting gaskets and flanges (516077-xxx, 515037-001, 515025-001) and eliminator head elbows are listed separately on this store.

Pricing and lead time are quoted per configuration. Send the model code (or the details above) with your product and operating conditions to Flow Measurement Services for a quote. Specifications summarized from Smith Meter bulletin SS03032 Rev 0.8 (4/18); confirm current data with the factory before ordering.
