Smith Meter counter/printers mount in the PD meter register stack and mechanically print a sealed ticket for each transfer. The ticket is sealed into the printer during delivery and must be printed before it can be removed, so the customer gets a tamper-proof meter-printed receipt. Series 2600 (accumulative) prints the seven-digit finish reading above the start reading (the previous finish), and delivery is found by subtraction. Series 6600 (zero start) prints a six-digit delivery directly with an all-zero start print (five digits on European versions). Both have a self-closing weatherproof cover.
