Smith Meter flow conditioners optimize turbine meter performance by removing swirl and velocity-profile distortion caused by valves, pumps, strainers, thermowells and piping. A complete meter run normally uses a 10-pipe-diameter upstream section with a stainless steel straightening vane insert and a 5-pipe-diameter downstream section, built to API MPMS Chapter 5.3 and ASME B31.3. Assemblies must match the meter size; bidirectional runs use two upstream assemblies.
