Smith Meter High Performance Flow Conditioning Assemblies combine a 316 stainless steel flow conditioning element with a flanged pipe spool to strip swirl and velocity-profile distortion ahead of a turbine meter. They condition substantially better than standard API-design tube bundles, with low pressure drop and a non-obstructive element that does not collect debris. The element is also available alone as a captive flange insert for installation in an existing upstream run.

Key specifications

  • Sizes: 3", 4", 6", 8", 10", 12" and 16"
  • Max working pressure: Carbon steel flanges: 285 psi (Cl 150), 740 psi (Cl 300), 1,480 psi (Cl 600) at -20 to 100 °F
  • Materials: Carbon steel spool and flanges standard, stainless optional; 316 SS conditioning element
  • Length: Upstream spool 10 pipe diameters (e.g. 60" for 6"); 5 diameters of straight pipe downstream recommended
  • Pressure drop: Low; example 6" at 4,000 bph, 50 cP, 0.9 SG is about 14 psi (see bulletin chart)
  • Options: Dowel pin flange alignment for repeatable as-tested performance
  • Captive insert: Installed between flanges with customer-supplied gaskets on both sides

How to read the model code

Example: K22HGA000 (6" upstream assembly, Class 150, RF carbon steel). Read the code left to right; each position selects one option:

  • Positions 1-2 (Product line): K2 = turbine meter
  • Position 3 (Item): 2 = flow straightening assembly
  • Position 4 (Type): H = upstream section with high performance conditioner; J = captive flange insert only, standard flange; K = captive flange insert only, serrated flange
  • Position 5 (Size): E 3"; F 4"; G 6"; H 8"; J 10"; K 12"; L 16"
  • Position 6 (Pressure class): A Cl 150; B Cl 300; D Cl 600; T = captive insert for Sch 40 pipe; S = captive insert for other schedules
  • Positions 7-8 (Ends / material): 00 = RF CS flanges/CS tube; A1 = RF SS flanges/SS tube; XX = not required (captive insert)
  • Position 9 (Specials): 0 = none; X = special

Pair with a downstream section sized to the meter; FMS can quote the complete meter run.

Pricing and lead time are quoted per configuration. Send the model code (or your application details), product, flow range, and pressure/temperature to Flow Measurement Services for a quote. Specifications summarized from Smith Meter bulletin SS02018; confirm current data with the factory before ordering.
