The Smith Meter Load Printer is an electro-mechanical, accumulative or zero-start ticket printer that records and prints information received from a pulse-transmitting device, for installations that need a locally printed ticket of each transaction. It works with a Smith Meter AccuLoad or with positive displacement meters equipped with a transmitter / load controller / flow computer providing up to 250 Hz. It takes 10 contact closures per unit volume to advance the right-hand wheel one unit; the electronics drive a stepper motor which drives a standard Veeder-Root mechanical printer head. The operator turns the side handle to lock the ticket and print, and turns it again at the end of the transaction.

Key specifications

  • Hazardous location: Explosion-proof, NEC Class I, Group D, Div. 1 (features); UL Listed 557N, UL File E23545, Class I Groups C & D, Tamb -40 to +50 °C (approvals)
  • AC power: 115 Vac ±10%, 48/63 Hz, 1.5 A max, or 230 Vac ±10%, 48/63 Hz, 0.75 A max (selectable)
  • Pulse input: Voltage-free mechanical or semiconductor switch contact; 6 mA dc source at 2 V max across the closed switch; 15,000 closures/min (250 Hz) max; max slew rate 50 Hz/s; minimum 2 ms on and off time
  • Outputs: 12 Vdc ±10% at 40 mA auxiliary power; tray switch, normally open, closed when the ticket is locked in, rated 250 Vac 15 A resistive; output shaft 150 rpm max
  • Print mechanism: Accumulative (non-reset) 7 digits or zero start (resettable) 6 digits; consecutive 3-digit transaction number; two-wheel location identifier A, B, D, E, F, G, J, K, P or R
  • Tickets: 4-1/8 to 5 in x 7-3/4 in (104-127 x 198 mm); long ticket guide option for longer blanks
  • Environment / weight: -40 to 122 °F (-40 to 50 °C); 5-95% humidity; about 43 lb (18 kg)
  • OPV option: Optically isolated open-collector pulse output, 1-10 pulses per unit volume (thumbwheel), 25 Vdc max off, 15 mA at 1 V on, 0-250 Hz

How to read the model code

Example: K6LP-XU(Z)-OFW-L. Read the code left to right; each position selects one option:

  • K6LP (Model designation): Load Printer (K6 is factory reference only and is not shown on the nameplate)
  • XU (Housing): XU = explosion-proof and UL
  • (blank) / Z (Printer): Blank = accumulative; Z = zero start
  • OFW (Hardware options): OP = OPV board; FW = right-hand fixed wheel; LT = long ticket guide; OFW = OPV + fixed wheel; OLT = OPV + long ticket guide; FLT = long ticket guide + fixed wheel; OFL = OPV + long ticket guide + fixed wheel; 000 = none
  • L (Fixed symbol): Z = zero only; S = litre symbol; L = zero and litre symbol; M = cubic meter symbol; 0 = none (any symbol other than none requires the right-hand fixed wheel option)

How to specify / order

The bulletin asks for the following when ordering:

  • Complete model number (above), including the fixed-wheel number and/or fixed symbol where used
  • Units of registration (gallons, liters, barrels, etc.)
  • Maximum rate of flow
  • Approval required (UL)
  • Options: OPV board, right-hand fixed wheel (liter registration in decaliters), long ticket guide

Bulletin notes: the features list says Class I, Group D, Div. 1 while the approvals section says Class I Groups C & D; humidity is printed "5 to 95% with condensation"; standard tickets are given as 7-3/4 in long but the long ticket guide is "for tickets longer than the standard (7.8")"; the example code order (symbol after options) does not match the order of the code table headings. This is a different product from the meter-mounted counter ticket printer (listing SM-TICKET-PRINTER).

Pricing and lead time are quoted per configuration. Send the model code (or the details above) with your product and operating conditions to Flow Measurement Services for a quote. Specifications summarized from Smith Meter bulletin SS06004 Rev 0.5 (2/19); confirm current data with the factory before ordering.
