The Smith Meter Model 200-64A is a hydraulically operated, diaphragm-actuated, globe-pattern automatic pressure reducing control valve that holds a steady downstream pressure. Unlike the 200-50B, its 64A pressure control pilot sits in the upstream side of the pilot loop and is normally closed; it opens to throttle the main valve only as downstream pressure approaches the setting. With the sensitivity (closing speed) needle valve on the downstream side, the 200-64A creates a low pressure drop while modulating, which suits installations where pressure loss is a primary concern. The main valve opens when the differential across the diaphragm exceeds three to five psi. Control range is limited to flow rates above 5% of nominal maximum flow.
