The Smith Meter Model PA-6 preamplifier fits the standard explosion-proof junction box on Smith Meter turbine meters and D transmitters (PD meters). It converts the low-voltage sinusoidal pickup-coil signal into a square-wave pulse for transmission runs over 2,000 ft or for instruments needing a fast edge-triggered input. Outputs at 0.5x, 1x and 2x pulse multiplication and jumper-selectable gain let it match Smith Meter presets, flow computers and third-party receivers.

How to specify / order
- Meter it will serve: Smith Meter turbine meter (model/size) or D transmitter on a PD meter
- Quantity per meter (one per pickup coil; two for dual-pulse security)
- Receiving instrument and its input voltage limit (output exceeds 12 VDC when supplied above 12 VDC)
- Required output: x0.5, x1 or x2 pulse multiplication
- Cable length and wire gauge to the receiving instrument
- Whether a replacement for an existing PA-6 or a new installation (FMS can supply the junction box and pickup coil)
